My Record

The work that we are doing at Hennepin County matters. I am proud of my record:

• Transportation—improving travel options, safety and economic vitality through road projects, bicycle and pedestrian enhancements and Southwest Light Rail Transit;
• Public Safety—supporting public safety improvements such as the building of the new 911 Dispatch Center, the new public safety access point on Lake Minnetonka and technology improvements like the purchase of Next Generation 911;
• Human Services—carrying critical human services into our communities and bringing forward initiatives for families and children in areas such as child protection and access to early childhood education;
• Environmental stewardship—advocating for and supporting recycling and natural resource management;
• Libraries—improving access to services through the construction of the new Excelsior library and planning for a new Southdale Library and for upgrades at Ridgedale.

Government should be accountable, innovative and fiscally responsible. I have supported new approaches such as continuous improvement and pay for performance contracts; connecting with residents through the Hennepin County Citizens Academy and my monthly newsletter; and the careful balancing of the need for services and state mandates with the impact of property taxes.

Advocating for the needs of the residents, businesses and cities of this district is important. My record includes support for the extension of 911 dispatch services to Hopkins; receiving community input into the redesign of County Road 112 in Orono and Long Lake; partnership to reconstruct the Vine Hill bridge in Deephaven; working with resident and business input in the reconstruction of Shady Oak Road in Hopkins and Minnetonka and Bushaway/County Road 101 in Wayzata, Woodland and Minnetonka; building a library facility in Excelsior and a new service center in Edina; and improved pedestrian facilities in Navarre.

My decision-making and approach to governance have earned me support across my district and from my colleagues on the County Board.
